A Watford City teen, Colton DeFoe, has been charged with two counts of Reckless Endangerment and one count of Criminal Mischief following a shooting at Tobacco Gardens in McKenzie County on Friday, March 18.
Upon arriving at the scene, McKenzie County law enforcement officers were informed that Daniel Lagace and Tara Keeling had reported that DeFoe had shot the camper they were staying in several times while in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Det. Blood spoke with Keeling and Lagace and was informed that DeFoe had arrived earlier in the evening with Alicia Kimball, who was seeking property from Keeling.
Kimball and DeFoe were denied access into the camper and Kimball was heard saying, “I know you’re in there.” Lagace stated that he had been watching Kimball and DeFoe through the window of the camper when DeFoe began shooting a gun from the passenger side of the vehicle.
Lagace stated that a round hit the camper extremely close to where he was standing, so he yelled at Keeling to get on the floor, so she wouldn’t get hit by a bullet.
Blood was informed that Kimball was driving a lifted white Dodge pickup and that they had fled the scene after shooting at the camper. Blood located seven bullet holes in the side of the camper.
At approximately 2:45 a.m., DeFoe was taken into custody and Kimball was detained at a camper located off Zoe Road, south of Watford City.
Court documents state that Kimball admitted to being present while DeFoe was shooting from the passenger side of the vehicle into the camper and having text message conversations with Keeling prior to coming to the camper. DeFoe admitted to shooting a 9mm rifle into the camper. No one was hurt in the shooting.
DeFoe was taken to the McKenzie County Jail and his bond has been set at $100,000 cash or corporate surety. He is facing two felony charges and one misdemeanor charge. A Preliminary Hearing and/or Arraignment has been scheduled for April 28, at 8:30 a.m., with Judge Schmidt presiding.
