A Keene man that pled guilty to two felony charges of child pornography possession in December  of 2015, was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday, March 28, in Watford City.
Anthony Shields will now have to serve a little over three years in the department of corrections. The court gave Shields credit for 693 days served, meaning he will have to serve three years and 37 days on the first count of possession of child pornography. The court suspended three years and 37 days on the second count of possession of child pornography and Shields was given credit for the 693 days already served.
As part of his sentence, Shields will have to serve five years of supervised probation and will have to register as a sex offender.
The case began in October of 2010, when 20 charges of child pornography possession were filed against him and a warrant of arrest was issued. According to court records, the warrant of arrest wasn’t served upon him until May 8, 2014, when the criminal process began.
A year and a half later, a plea agreement was reached where Shields would plead guilty to two of the 20 counts, and the remaining 18 would be dismissed.
