McKenzie County Fair kicks off July 14

With a new date, on a slightly less busy weekend, the McKenzie County Fair is the place to be July 14 through July 17.
The fairgrounds will come to life on July 14 as area 4-Hers begin bringing in their exhibits for judging. But, the exhibits aren’t just for 4-Hers. If you have an item you’ve made or baked, you can enter it into the Open Class Show at the Homemaker Building on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, July 15 brings the 4-H livestock shows starting at 9 a.m. with the Swine Show and ending at 6 p.m. with the 4-H Dog Show. Throughout the day you can enjoy various livestock shows in the outdoor arena or head indoors to the exhibit buildings for some fun demonstrations ranging from cooking to candle-making.
Curly’s Funtastic Kid Zone opens at 11 a.m. with the Fair Parade heading down Main Street at 4 p.m. followed by the Free Beef Barbecue back at the fairgrounds at 5:30 p.m.
The fun continues Friday with the Petting Zoo and commercial exhibits opening at 9 a.m. and the 4-H Small Animal Judging also at 9 a.m.
Curly’s Funtastic Kid Zone will open at 11 a.m. along with face painting. The Sandbox Dig for kids six and under starts at noon with an Airplane Candy Drop at 12:30 p.m.
If you’re interested in purchasing any of the 4-H livestock, the sale begins at 2 p.m. and you can send your kids to the climbing wall while you make your purchase.
Registration for the Pinewood Derby begins at 3 p.m. with the Derby race starting at 4 p.m. If you’re looking for some car-crashing action, the Demolition Derby registration closes at 5:15 p.m. with the Derby following at 6 p.m. Friday’s events close with a dance to K-Hook beginning at 8:30 p.m.
The fun gets underway again at 9 a.m. on Saturday with all of Friday’s favorites plus some special events.
At noon, you won’t want to miss the Playing with Gravity Motorcycle Stunts or the Ice Cream Social at 12:30 p.m. The NDRA Rodeo gets underway at 3 p.m., and if you’re inspired by the show, you can try out the Mechanical Bull between 8:30 and 12:30 while you dance to K-Hook.
With many food vendors and lots of fun, the McKenzie County Fair is sure to be a great time for all.
