Watford City High School’s baseball team extended its winning record to 13-0 and 7-0 in region play this past week as the Wolves swept  Des Lacs-Burlington by scores of 9-0 and 2-1 before knocking off the Williston JV team 14-3 and 4-2.

Trey Jacobson pitched a complete game shutout as the Wolves rolled over DLB 9-0 in the first game of double-header action last Tuesday.
In picking up the win, Jacobson struck out 11 batters while giving up just one walk and two hits.
“Our pitching was excellent,” stated Justin Johnsrud, Wolves’ head coach. “Jacobson had a perfect game going through five innings before he gave up one hit to lead off the 6th inning.”
According to Johnsrud, offensively it was the best game that the Wolves had put together all season as they scored nine runs on 10 hits.
“We only had three strikeouts, so again we forced their defense to make plays,” stated Johnsrud. “We had some base running errors, but had big hits in key situations from most everyone in the starting lineup. Hopefully, we continue to improve over the next two weeks and are at the top of our game come tournament time.”
At the plate, Nate Egeberg was two for two with two runs scored and Jayden Grotte was two for  two with one run and two RBIs.

In the second game of the day against DLB, the Wolves pulled off a 2-1 win.
“Lucas Nicholson struggled with control in the first inning giving DLB their only run on no hits,” stated Johnsrud. “But he really settled down and pitched well after that.”
In five innings of work, Nicholson struck out nine batters and gave up three walks and three hits.

Watford City 14-3 Williston JV 4-2
Watford City completed a perfect week of play on Friday sweeping the Williston High School JV team, 14-3 and 4-2.
“We added Williston to our schedule to give us a couple of non-conference games,” stated Johnsrud. “We don’t have the luxury of having many teams close by and this series gave our pitchers a little more work and our hitters a few more plate appearances.”
As this was a non-conference game, no stats were provided.
