After receiving a first round bye in the District 15 Tournament, which began on Thursday, Feb. 28 in New Town, the Watford City varsity girls basketball team guaranteed themselves a berth at the upcoming Region 8 Tournament with a 81-62 win over Parshall.
The Wolves, who improved their season record to 18-2, will match up against New Town in the District 15 title game before advancing to the Region 8 Tournament. The Region 8 Tournament, which will be held at Williston State College, begins on Monday, March 11.

Watford City 81, Parshall 62
Watford City’s offense was on fire on Saturday evening as the Wolves completely dominated the Parshall Braves in semifinal action of the Region 8 Tournament.
The Wolves could seemingly do no wrong as Watford City took control of the game early on tremendous inside play and hot shooting from the outside. While Watford City’s offense was doing its work, the Wolves’ stingy defense kept the Braves’ offense on its heels.
The result was another easy win for the Wolves.
Watford City led the Braves 19-15 at the end of the first quarter. But from that point on, the Wolves were never challenged.
McKayla Haugeberg and Katie Mogen had the hot hands for Watford City as the pair scorched the nets for a combined 48 points. Haugeberg netted 26 points to lead the Wolves in scoring while Mogen netted 22 points in the winning effort.
Watford City led the Braves by 20 points, 61-41, at the end of three quarters of play and then coasted to the easy 81-62 win.
Also scoring in double figures for the Wolves was Ricki Lindley and Amanda Mogen with 10 points each. Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Jessica Brown with five points, Sadie Kieson with four points, while Kara Langerud and Jeanna Zenz netted two points each.
