Boys golf team takes third at Watford Invite

The Watford City boys golf team carded a score of 351 to take third place at the Watford City Invitational last Friday and then competed at the Bowman Invite on Saturday.
Colter Maki led Watford City with an 18-hole score of 85 to finish in sixth place, followed by Devyn Marquardt with an 87 and a 10th place finish and Cody Johnson with an 88.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Alex Hansen with a 91, Jake Rogness, 99; Jonathan Dunn, 105; Korbin Knutson, 118; and JJ Wahus, 164.
Kenmare won the tournament with a team score of 340, followed by Lewis & Clark with a 351.
Rounding out the team scores was Watford City, 351; Tioga, 388; Stanley, 398; Des Lacs/Burlington, 400;  New Town/Parshall, 410; Ray, 447; and Bowbells, 495.
The top 10 individual finishers were Hunter Harris, Kenmare, 72;  Sam Carlson, MLS, 79; Jayden Jenson, L&C, 81; Ryan Ross, L&C , 82;  James Ziliak, MLS, 84; Colter Maki, Watford City, 85; Kirkland Melby, Kenmare, 86; Mitchell Fifer, Tioga, 86; Hunter Borud, Stanley, 87; and Devyn Marquardt, Watford City, 87.
“I was impressed with the effort from my young golfers at both meets this week,” stated Scott Wisness, boys’ head coach. “Mitchell Liebel fractured his thumb and will be out for the season, so they will have to step up. Alex had some struggles, but I was very impressed that he turned it around and shot a 37 on the back nine in Bowman.”
At the Bowman Invitational, Alex Hansen led the Wolves with a score of 87, followed by Korbin Knutson with a 96. Also scoring for Watford City was Jonathan, Dunn 97; Devyn Marquardt, 100; Jake Rogness, 106; and Cody Johnson, 110.
This week the Wolves will travel to Stanley on Thursday for another qualifier.
