Eagles get the best of the Wolves

The Watford City varsity wrestling team took on two very tough opponents last Tuesday in dual action - the Sidney Eagles and the flu bug.
And the Wolves came up short against both with Sidney coming away with a 51-15 win as Watford City was not able to field a full slate of wrestlers as a result of the flu.
The varsity dual itself only featured actual matches in six of the 14 contested weights.
Coleton Jore was the lone Watford City wrestler to come away victorious as he finished with an 11-10 come-from-behind victory over Brayden Rux at 145 pounds.
Jore trailed Rux, 10-6, with about 20 seconds to go when he secured a reversal and was able to take his opponent to his back to score three near-fall points to pull ahead, 11-10, as the buzzer sounded.
“Coleton wrestled well,” stated Mitch Greenwood, Wolves’ head coach. “He needed to bounce back strong after this past weekend. He was not happy with his own performance at the Bowman Tournament and this was good for him to come back and wrestle strong.”
In spite of winning just one match in the varsity dual, Greenwood was happy with his team’s performance.
“We knew we wouldn’t compete in the dual with so many open weights, so I challenged the kids before the match started to come out and wrestle selfishly to push the pace and be more aggressive,” stated Greenwood. “They answered that challenge. Jade Hepper and Logan Gumke both wrestled up a weight class from where they weighed in at and wrestled very good kids. Neither of them backed down and both lost closely contested matches.”
And according to Greenwood, Jake Belland was definitely the aggressor in his heavyweight match, and unfortunately, came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 match.
“We can learn a lot from these types of matches and use the experience to improve,” stated Greenwood. “Later in the season, these are the types of matches we’ll be coming away from with victories.”
The Wolves and Eagles wrestled a number of exhibition matches following the dual. Coleton Jore earned a 17-1 technical fall for the Wolves, while Liam Shannon and Jade Hepper each pinned their opponents
