Wolves improve to 4-1 with two wins

Watford City’s varsity girls basketball team improved its season record to 4-1 as the Wolves downed Bottineau, 57-39, and Our Redeemer’s, 54-39, over the Christmas break.
The Wolves’s next home action will be on Tuesday, Jan. 13 when Watford City hosts New Town.

Watford City overcame a 17-15 first quarter deficit to defeat the Bottineau Stars, 57-39, on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Behind an explosive second quarter that saw the Wolves outscore Bottineau 17-9, Watford City took control of the game.
After leading Bottineau, 32-26, at halftime, Watford City posted a 16-6 third quarter scoring advantage and then coasted to the easy win. During the final eight minutes of play, the Wolves outgunned the Stars 9-7.
Three Watford City players scored  in double figures with Amanda Mogen netting a game high 20 points. Also in double figures for the Wolves was Ricki Lindley and Katie Mogen with 17 and 12 points, respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Kara Langerud, Lea Arndt, Jeanna Zena and Alyssa Prichard with two points each.
For the game, Watford City shot 43 percent from the field, hitting on 24 of 56 attempts and were good only one of six from behind the three-point line. At the free-throw line, Watford City shot a cool 30 percent, hitting on just six of 20 attempts.

In her first full game back after undergoing knee surgery, Watford City’s Katie Mogen definitely made her presence known. The 5’9” sophomore post poured in a game high 27 points, while hauling down nine rebounds, having eight steals and one block as the Wolves rolled over the Knights of Our Redeemer’s, 54-39, on Monday, Dec. 30.
Watford City made short work of the Knights as the Wolves jumped out to a 17-10 first quarter lead before posting a 25-19 halftime advantage.
The Wolves led the Knights, 36-28, at the end of three quarters of play and then outscored Our Redeemer’s 18-11, in the final eight minutes of play.
Also posting double-digit scoring for the Wolves was Amanda Mogen with 10 points.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Ricki Lindley with eight points, Elise Hadley with three points, Kara Langerud and Lea Arndt with two points each, while Mckenzie Sparby and Alli Mogen netted one point each.
For the game, Watford City hit on 20 of 70 attempts from the field and were good on 14 of 27 at the charity stripe.
