The Watford City boys basketball team split in varsity action this past week as the Wolves defeated the Richardton-Taylor Raiders, 59-37, and the Bowman Bulldogs, 68-52, before falling to the Beulah Miners, 71-59.
“We continue to improve our defense and rebounding and we are  taking better care of the basketball,” states Randy Cranston, Wolves’ head coach. “We are seeing success in doing the little things better and practices have been more competitive. Hopefully, we continue to improve as the regular season is already coming to an end.”
The Wolves will be at home this week as they host New Town on Thursday and Parshall next Tuesday.

Beulah 71, Watford City 59
A bad first quarter put the Watford City Wolves in a hole from which they couldn’t dig out, as the Wolves fell to the Beulah Miners, 71-59, last Saturday.
“We had a tough first quarter in which Beulah shot the ball very well and we didn’t do a very good job of taking care of the basketball,” stated Cranston. “We played pretty well for about three or four minutes in the first quarter. However, that ended up being a big deciding factor in this game.”
The Wolves trailed the Miners by 12 points, 25-13, at the end of the first quarter. And Watford City was never able to cut into that lead for the balance of the game.
Mitchell Liebel and Logan Fettig led the Wolves in scoring with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Also scoring for Watford City was Bo Cook with nine points, David Kline with eight points, Dustin Kleppen with seven points, Seth Indergard with six points, while Andrew Sampsel ended the game with two points.
