Girls pick up one win, lose three games

Watford City’s girls varsity softball team picked up one win over Kenmare last week, before losing a double-header to Stanley. The Wolves  then closed out the week falling to Kenmare.
This week, the Wolves will be competing in the Regional Softball Tournament in Minot on May 20-23.
Watford City 24, Kenmare 8
On May 3, the Wolves crushed Kenmare, 24-8, as Watford City scored 24 runs on 25 hits.
Watford City jumped out to a 10-1 first inning lead, and then led Kenmare, 11-5, after three innings of play. Watford City then rallied for nine runs in the fourth inning before tacking on two more insurance runs in the fifth to take the win.
At the plate, Tessa Dwyer was four for five with six RBIs, while Kaytlyn Grimes was five for five with seven RBIs.
Kamryn Grimes picked up the win on the mound for the Wolves as she struck out three batters, while giving up eight hits.

Watford City dropped a pair of games to Stanley on May 4 losing to the Blue Jays, 8-4 and 21-6.
In the first game, the Wolves trailed the Blue Jays, 7-0, after two innings of play before getting on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with a pair of runs.
But Watford City couldn’t match up against Stanley offensively.
Tori Hopkins took the loss on the mound for the Wolves as she gave up 15 hits and struck out five batters.
At the plate, Kaytlyn Grimes was three for three with four RBIs.
In the second game, Stanley continued to hit the ball well as the Blue Jays scored in every inning while the Wolves struggled at the plate.
Tori Hopkins gave up 26 hits, while striking out eight batters as she took the loss for Watford City.

Watford City fell to Kenmare, 12-11, in a road trip last week. No statistics were available for the game.
