Wolves spikers open season with pair of wins

Watford City’s varsity girls volleyball team got off to a great start as the Wolves gave their new head coach, Brad Foss, a pair of wins to open the 2014 season.
The Wolves swept Divide County in three games to open their home season last Tuesday, and then upended the Killdeer Cowboys in three quick games on Thursday.
This week, the Wolves will be hosting the Watford City Invitational Volleyball Tournament with games being played at the high school and elementary school gymnasiums. Tournament action begins at 9 a.m.

Watford City 3, Divide County 0
In three very close games, Watford City won the first game, 25-23, and then took the final two games in the best of five series by scores of 25-21 and 25-16
“What a great opening game,” stated Brad Foss on the opening win of the season. “It was two good teams going through exposing the strengths and weaknesses of each other. It was an exciting start to our season!”
Ricki Lindley, a 5’6” junior outside hitter for the Wolves, led Watford City with 10 kills and four aces.
Watford City’s hustle on the court  and team effort in their first action of the season impressed Foss.
“When the pressure was on, we  played well,” stated Foss. “We will continually look for ways to make ourselves better.”

Aces: Ricki Lindley, 4; Katie Mogen, 4; Kara Langerud, 2.
Kills: Lindley, 10; Mogen, 6; Emily Segneri, 3.
Blocks: Mogen, 5.
Assists: Tarynn Jacobson, 12; Alli Mogen, 9.
Digs: Bailee Garmann, 10; Lindley, 8; Jacobson. 4.

Watford City 3, Killdeer 0
Watford City had 10 service aces and 14 kills as the Wolves cruised to an easy 3-0 win over the Killdeer Cowboys last Thursday. The Wolves won the first game of the best of five match defeating the Cowboys, 25-13. Watford City then wrapped up the shutout taking the final two games by scores of 25-8 and 25-21.
“I feel it was a good game for us,” stated Foss. “We blocked very effectively and forced them into doing what they did not want to do. This was a good confidence-building win for us.”
Ricki Lindley had four service aces for the Wolves, while Katie Mogen had six kills.
