Watford City’s varsity girls golf team opened its 2015 season with a first place finish at Des Lacs/Burlington on April 21. The Wolves posted a score of 383 on the par 3 and par 4 course to out-distance Stanley, which finished in second with a score of 420.
“We have a very young team and they are competing very well in our region,” stated Kelli Youngquist, Wolves’ head coach. “Kasi Sorenson, a senior and State qualifier from last year, is a great team leader and is bringing in good, consistent scores.”
Abby McCauley paced the Wolves in scoring as she carded a 92 to take first place in a tie-breaker between three players, while Jayden Uhlich, who also fired a score of 92 finished in third. Kenda Foreman finished in fifth place with a score of 97.
Other Watford City scores in the tournament were Olivia Gronos, 102; Kasi Sorenson, 108; and Payton Blotsky, 124.
“All of our sophomores have really stepped it up this year,” stated Youngquist. “Abby McCauley, who was a State qualifier last year is improving with every meet. She is mentally tough and she plays very well under pressure.”
On Monday, April 27, the Wolves hosted their own invitational with the team coming in third with a score of 456.
Kasi Sorenson and Abby McCauley led Watford City’s scoring with rounds of 110, while Jayden Uhlich finished with a 117. Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Kendra Foreman, 119, and Olivia Gronos, 124.
