Wolves take second at Beach Tourney

Watford City’s varsity volleyball team took second place at the Beach Tournament on Oct. 10, before falling to Dickinson Trinity in dual action on Thursday, Oct. 15.
The Wolves then rebounded with a dual win on Saturday, Oct. 17, as Watford City defeated Powers Lake, 3-1.
This week, the Wolves will travel to Beulah on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and then head to Washburn on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Beach Tournament
Watford City cruised through their first two pool play games of the Beach Tournament on Oct. 10, defeating Richardton/Taylor, 20-13 and 20-11, and Bowman County, 20-10 and 20-16, before splitting with Fairview. Against Fairview, the Wolves dropped the first game, 20-18, and then rebounded to take the second game, 20-12.
In tournament action, Watford City pounded Beach, 25-12, in the first game before falling to the Bucs, 25-11 in the second game. The Wolves then advanced to the semifinals with a 15-11 over Beach.
In semifinal action, the Wolves battled back after losing their first game to Heart River, 25-15, to take the final two games, 25-19 and 15-10.
In the championship game, the Wolves took on Wibaux with the Longhorns sweeping Watford City, 25-19 and 25-15.
Katie Mogen led Watford City in the tournament with 36 kills, 19 digs, 11 blocks and 15 service aces, while Alli Mogen had 38 assists.

Dickinson Trinity 3, Watford City 1
Dickinson Trinity just had too much fire power as the Wolves dropped a 3-1 match to the Titans on Thursday, Oct. 15.
The Wolves defeated the Titans, 25-19, in the first game before dropping the final three games of the match, 13-25, 21-25 and 20-25.
Alli Mogen led the Wolves with 56 assists and 16 digs, while Katie Mogen had 18 kills and three blocks. Brea Jore paced Watford City with four service aces,

Watford City 3, Powers Lake 1
Watford City picked up a big region win on Saturday as the Wolves knocked off Power Lake, 3-1. The Wolves took the first two games by scores of 26-21 and 25-14, before the Ranchers bounced back to take the third game, 25-10.
But the Wolves answered back to take the match in a hard-fought fourth game with Watford City edging the Ranchers, 27-25.
“We had a great match against Powers Lake,” stated Brad Foss, Wolves’ head coach. “It was a very intense game with a lot of digs and kills on both sides.”
Katie Mogen and Ricki Lindley led the Wolves with 21 and 14 kills, respectively, while Brea Jore had two service aces. Alli Mogen paced the Wolves with 22 assists in the match.
Defensively, Jore had 20 digs, while Katie Mogen and Mackenzie Sparby had one block each.
