The Watford City girls golf team shot a 444 to take fifth place at the Northwest Conference Golf Meet at the Prairie Rose Golf Course last Monday and then returned to Stanley on Saturday to compete in the Individual State Qualifier.
Emilee Anderson led the Wolves in scoring with a 15th place individual effort with a score of 102 at the Northwest Conference Meet. Also scoring for Watford City was Jayden White Owl, 120; Taylor Dwyer, 139; and Allison Monsen, 133.
At the Individual Qualifying event, the Wolves took third place with 404 points with Karson Pederson qualifying for State with a 10th place finish.
“We improved our team score by 40 strokes from Monday to Saturday,” stated LeRoy Bettenhausen, Wolves head coach.
Karson Pederson led the Wolves with a score of 97 followed by Emilie Anderson, 99; Bessie Schmitz, 103; Shaunta Miller, 105; Allison Monsen, 114; and Taylor Dwyer, 113.
The next action for the varsity girls will be the Region 6 Meet on Friday,  May 21. The meet is a team qualifier for the ND State Class B Girls Tournament, which will be held at the Hillcrest Golf Course in Jamestown June 1-2.
In order to qualify for State the Wolves need to place in the top three teams at Region as a team.
“I like our chances of qualifying for State,” says Bettenhausen. “We will continue to work on all facets for the game and let the putts drop where they will. But, we will need a great team effort out of all six players.”
