Edwin Darlan Strickland Sr. was born May 25, 1943, in Port Orchard, Wash., to Harold and Doris (Broughman) Strickland. At an early age, the family moved to Minot, N.D., where Ed was raised and educated. As a young man, he moved to Watford City, N.D., where he lived with family and worked on the Jacobson family farm near Alexander, N.D. He worked for many years at the Mobil station in Alexander.
On Oct. 3, 1964, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ross in Watford City. The couple resided in the Alexander area until 1985. That year, Kerr McGee, a local gas plant southwest of Alexander where Ed was working, closed. They then moved to Williston, N.D., where Ed worked for R&M Pump Jack Service. Ed also managed, for a time, an apartment complex for Mr. Corky Coughlin. Ed had recently retired, but spent some time at Bethel Home in maintenance and was still living in Williston.
Ed enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and watching most sports. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings/Twins fan. He also enjoyed cooking, and always made sure to make enough to share with neighbors and family. He loved spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren, and was always quick to give a loving hug.
Ed is survived by his sons; Kirby (Anita) Strickland of Williston, and Eddy (Bree) Strickland of Williston; daughter, Kim (Charlie) Herz of Williston; daughter-in-law, Jackie Johannsen of Williston; 16 grandchildren: Derek, Jesse, Heidi, Teena, Paige, Kirsten, Austin, Jaden, Jesse, Alex, Stephanie, Ashley, Amanda, Emily, Haley and Justen; six great-grandchildren: Jesse, Zach, Michael, MaKenna, Dakota, and Jazmyne; brothers: Harold (Pat) Strickland and Ron (Sissy) Strickland, both of Sheboygan, Wis., Lyle (Nancy) Strickland, of Mandan, N.D.; Charles Kutter of Aurora, Colo.; Kirby Sandvik of West Fargo, N.D., and Kim Sandvik of Fargo, N.D.; sisters: Robbie Martin of West Fargo, Kitty (Lawrence) Bullinger of Davenport, Idaho, Cheryl (Jim) Krump of Sisseton, S.D., and Marla Lambourn of Fargo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara, in April of 2010; and niece, Michelle Ross.
