Marian Bakke

Marian Margaret Bakke was born in Schafer, N.D., on Oct. 20, 1920. She died on Dec. 28, 2010, at age 90.
Marian attended Minot State Teachers College for two years, and then taught in a rural school, and later taught the first and second grades in Wales, N.D. Marian enlisted in the Navy in 1944, and was discharged in 1946. She then entered the University of Montana and received a degree in Business Administration. She worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Oakland, Calif., for 30 years as a secretary and, later, Patent Docket Clerk. She retired from Kaiser Aluminum in 1982.
After receiving her degree from the University of Montana, Marian reenlisted in the Naval Reserve. She received a commission in the Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in 1953. After over 30 years of service, she retired from the Navy as a Commander in 1982. Marian was a member, and long-time secretary of the California Reserve Officers’ Association.
Marian was a resident of Alameda, Calif., until 1998, when she moved to Rossmoor, a retirement community in Walnut Creek, Calif. She enjoyed bridge, golf and learning the computer.
There are no known family members who survived her. Her remains were interred at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, next to her beloved brother, Claude Bakke, who died in 1998.
