Opal Greaves

Opal Greaves, 85, a longtime Watford City, N.D., resident died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Watford City.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 2, 2012, at the Watford City Assembly of God Church in Watford City with the Reverend Sheldon Gorman officiating. Burial was held at the Schafer Cemetery.
Opal Marian Jorgens was born Oct. 4, 1926, to John and Marian (Early) Jorgens at the family home in McKenzie County, North Dakota near North Unit of the Roosevelt Park.  She was raised on the family farm and educated in rural schools.
On July 17, 1950, she married Gordon Sanderson in Arnegard, N.D.  They had five children.  The couple divorced in 1973 but remained good friends.  Opal married Clayton Greaves on Dec. 30, 1974, in Buffalo, S.D.
Opal lived in Watford City all of her life.  She never learned to drive but walked everywhere.  She enjoyed getting together with her friends and family for coffee and fellowship.  She attended the Wesleyan Church for many years and later attended the Assembly of God Church.  
She loved her cats and dogs; she was never without one as a companion.  She enjoyed reading and collecting stamps.
In May 2006, Opal broke her hip and moved into the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City where she has resided since.
Opal is survived by her sons, Wayne Sanderson of Bismarck, N.D., Melvin Sanderson of Bual, Idaho, and Robert (Cindy) Sanderson of Portland, N.D.; daughters, Sandra (Patrick) Ragains and Lois (Richard) Beane both of Watford City, N.D.; and 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and her extended family through the marriage to Clayton Greaves.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and brother, Robert.
