Albert Nelson

Graveside service for Albert Barry Nelson, also known as Barry, age 70, from Oxford, Mich., formerly of Watford City, N.D., is 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 29, at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City. Interment of cremains will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Schaffer Cemetery.
Albert “Al” was born on June 25, 1941, to Albert “Buster” and Lucille (Melcher) Nelson in Dickinson, N.D. He was raised in Watford City, N.D., and graduated from high school as class valedictorian. He attended North Dakota State University and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Al married Linda Irene Wollan in 1962. In 1964, they moved to Michigan when Al began work as an engineer with Pontiac Motors. He worked for General Motors for 34 years, retiring from the Saturn Division in 1998.
Al enjoyed golfing and played on GM company leagues, with the Sons of Norway, and on couples’ leagues with Linda. He inherited a love of fishing from his father and they enjoyed fishing together. Al was also a model airplane enthusiast and belonged to the Skymasters Flying Club.
Al was dedicated to his family, friends and church. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran church for over 43 years, serving as treasurer and on the church council. Al was greatly depended upon by his family and friends for his wise guidance, unflinching support and generous spirit. He will be greatly missed.
Al died on Dec. 29, 2011 in Michigan.
Al is remembered with love by his wife, Linda; daughters, Nicole and Carrie; sister, Joan (Robert) Berg; mother, Lucille; mother-in-law, Mildred Wollan; granddaughters, Lauren and Audrey; and a nephew, Scott (Teri) Berg.
Al was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery; his father, Albert “Buster” Nelson; and his father-in-law, Lynn Wollan.
