Arthur Gallinger

Arthur (Art) Clarence Gallinger of Jordan, Mont., passed away on Wed. Feb. 20, 2013.
Art was born in Jordan, Mont., to Clarence and Ruth (Viall) Gallinger on Sept. 19, 1935. He attended grade school in Fromberg and high school in Jordan, where he graduated in 1953.
In 1954, he entered the Air Force for four years and then continued in the Air National Guard for 14 more years. On Feb.15, 1959, he married Ruth Marie (Mimi) Weimer. They made their home in Jordan until 1964 when they moved to Lewistown. Art and Mimi resided in Lewistown with their family where he worked for the ASCS until 1973 when he transferred to Billings. After spending one year in Billings, Art and his family moved to Watford City, N.D., where he was with the forest service until 1987. He and Mimi then spent three years in Yuma, Ariz., with the BLM. Upon retirement in 1990, Art and Mimi returned to Jordan.
He was bored with retirement so decided to return to the “real world” and became the Garfield County Justice of the Peace in 1995. He held this position until 2010 when he officially retired.
Art enjoyed his morning coffee and shop talk at Fellman’s, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. He was the happiest when his family was around. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the VFW, Shriner’s, and the Masons, which he was proud to be a part of.
He is survived by his wife, Mimi of 54 years; daughters, Karla (Dale) Clark of Hardin, Mont., Artis (Gary) Stevens of Watford City, N.D., Dawn (Jay D) Dohrmann of Renton, Wash.; and son Chad Gallinger of Lakeville, Minn.; grandchildren, Mandy, Shelly, Nikki, Cale, Blake, Emily, and Reese; great-grandchildren, Ricki and Baily; sister, Norma Hoverson, of Billings; sisters-in-law, Rosie Hunter and Jackie Gallinger; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Preceding Art in death were his parents; brother, Glen; a grandson, Alex Stevens; brothers-in-law, Wayne Hunter and Stanley Gall; nephew, Paul Hoverson, and niece, Mona Gallinger.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Jordan. Interment followed in the family lot of the Pioneer Cemetery in Jordan with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital or the memorial of choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting:  www.stevnesonandsons.com.
