Esther Skaar

Esther Skaar, 88, of rural Keene, N.D., died peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013.
Her funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at the Watford City Assembly of God Church.  Pastor Chad Petersen officiated.  Interment was at the Clear Creek Cemetery, Keene, N.D.
Esther C. Skaar was born to Kristofer and Amanda (Mollie) Berg in the Spring Creek area in rural Watford City, N.D., on Dec. 6, 1924.  She graduated from Watford City High School with the Class of 1942.  She earned her teaching certificate from Minot State Teachers College and taught school for a year at the Tollefson School.
Esther married Harold Skaar on June 9, 1946, and they lived on Harold’s mother’s homestead in the Clear Creek area near Keene, where they farmed and raised their four children.  In 1974, Harold and Esther realized their ministry when they opened a portion of land to open Shekinah Family Bible Camp which operated until 2004.  Harold preceded Esther in death in 2002.
Esther and Harold were active in Gideon International.  Esther was a devoted and active member of the Watford City Assembly of God Church.
Esther is survived by her children Diane Skaar (m. Andy Freeman), Tucson, Ariz.; Patricia Gunderson (m. Bruce Gunderson), Watford City, N.D.; Eileen Buckingham (m. John Buckingham, deceased), Fargo, N.D.; and Brian Skaar (m. Beverly), Lakota, N.D.; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Esther is also survived by sister, Bernice Berg of Watford City, N.D., and brother, Sten Berg, of Mt. Vernon, Wash.
Esther enjoyed attending Bible Study, gardening, sewing, reading, and baking for family and friends.
