Memorial services for Barbara Perry, 58, of Alexander, N.D., will be held at the Fulkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Williston, N.D., 5 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014, with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating.
Barbara died early Saturday morning, May 3, 2014, at her home with her family at her side following a three month battle with brain cancer.
Barbara Perry was born April 2, 1956, in Rendsburg, Germany, where she was raised and attended school.   She attended cosmetology school and was a licensed cosmetologist in Germany before moving to the United States in 1984.
On Sept. 16, 1985, she was united in marriage to Bob Perry at Watford City, N.D. The couple has made their home in Alexander since. Barb was very proud when she became a naturalized US citizen in 1988.
Barb had an interesting variety of occupations. After arriving in the U.S., she owned and operated Barb’s Ragged Butte Café on Main Street in Alexander. Her German specialties would always sell out. She learned about engraving while working for Ritter Brothers Jewelry in Williston, but she developed an allergic reaction to the metals, leading to her returning to her love and experience for cosmetology, and she worked at Merle Norman Salon on Main in Williston for 17 years. After a brief break in her employment, Barb began working as a cashier at Economart and was quickly promoted.  She retired from Cash Wise (formerly Economart) as Front End Manager.  Her strong work ethic and dependability always was evident to her employers.  She loved her job and enjoyed working with the staff and greeting all the many varied customers of the current Williston.
Barb enjoyed taking long vacations back to Germany and would stay at her family’s home in Rendsburg.  She was always very happy to see her son and grandson, as well as her aunt, uncle and cousins. She enjoyed her home life and was an excellent cook and baker, she also enjoyed knitting.  She loved to go fishing an enjoyed gaming in Deadwood, S.D.
She is survived by her husband, Bob of Alexander, N.D.; son, Niels and grandson, Thomas of Fockbeck, Germany; her mother, Wilma Leer of Ridgecrest, Calif.; brothers, Axel (Kim) Leer and Kim (Lisa) Leer both of Ridgecrest, Calif., Eric (Shayla) Leer of Seattle, Wash.; and sister, Esther (Lance) Englund of Pahrump, Nev. She is also survived by her aunt, Elfreide Stuck of Rendsburg, Germany; cousin, Claudia (Wolfgang) Hein of Büdelsdorf, Germany; and well as many other cousins, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Gene Leer; grandparents, Karl Heinz and Else Stuck; uncle, Karl Heinz Stuck; and cousin, Peter all of Rendsburg, Germany.
