Floyd Daley

Floyd Daley, 90, of Watford City, N.D., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at the McKenzie County Hospital in Watford City.
Floyd Donald Daley was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Nashua, Mont., to John and Rose (Brandt) Daley. He was raised on the Montana Range and attended school at Grain. After school, he worked as a sheep herder, broke wild horses, trapped, rode saddle bronc and calf roped in the rodeo, and did various ranch work. He was in the Army, and stationed in Texas, California and Korea. He was a sharpshooter, winning many awards.  After leaving the Army, he met Merle Stashuk. They were married May 24, 1950, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City. To this union, three children were born: Ronald, Sandra and David.
Floyd took up flying and got his pilot license. His dream was to someday have his own plane. He went to work for Amerada, traveling all over the United States with his family.  They returned to Watford City and Floyd went to work for Matador & Koch. He worked hard and was a great family provider. He had a passion for fishing, and remained an avid fisherman until illness forced him to stop in recent years. They named an area after him where he could always be seen fishing, called Floyd’s Point, at Tobacco Gardens on Lake Sakakawea.
In the summer, he also enjoyed golfing and tending to his gardens. In the winter, he spent his time hunting and trapping. He was quite the trapper! Floyd was very mischievous as a youngster and throughout his life. He and two of his buddies were called the “Big Three” for some of their stunts. They rode their horses into a saloon once turning over tables and drinks. Floyd enjoyed life and people. He was known for his sense of humor, which stayed with him until the end. His family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a very important part of his life.
Floyd is survived by: his wife, Merle; two sons, Ronald Daley of Hazard, Ky., David Daley of Hot Springs, S.D.; daughter, Sandra (Miles) Wollan of Watford City, N.D.; step-daughter, Cheryl Enderud of Dickinson, N.D.; grandchildren, Matt Daley, Paul Daley, Travis (Kristen) Wollan, Brandon Wollan, Heather (Jim) Luchi, Heidi (Aaron) Trauger, Ryan (Kaye) Enderud, Derek (Jess) Enderud, Marci (Russ) Murphy, and Nicole (Scott) Crampton; and numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose; brothers, Leonard, Lester, Norman, Glen, and Earl; sisters, Doris, Violet, and Florence; daughters-in-law, Amy Daley, Deborah Daley, and a grandson, Curtis Floyd Daley.
Funeral services for Floyd were at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City with Pastor Rob Favorite officiating. Interment with Military Honors was in the Schafer Cemetery, Watford City, N.D., and was conducted under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City, N.D. Visitation was on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour before services at the church.
