Carlyle Mikkleson

Carlyle J. Mikkelson, 82, passed away passed away on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at Kalispell Regional Medical.  Carlyle was born to Mike and Gertrude (Sangolt) Mikkelson in Ideal Township, McKenzie County, N.D., on Feb. 17, 1932. He graduated from 8th grade in Arnegard, N.D., and High School at Augustana Academy at Canton, SD in 1952.
He served in the Air Force for four years beginning in 1952, with basic training in San Antonio, Texas, and then on to Cheyenne, Wyo., to technical school for auto mechanic. He had tours in Alaska, Goose Bay, Labrador and Lake Charles, La. After returning from the Air Force, Carlyle worked various jobs in the Watford City area. In 1963, he went to Glacier National Park and worked as a heavy equipment operator and serviced roads in the park until Nov. 30, 1990, at which time he retired.
After retirement he spent time travelling in Kayaks. He spent seven years operating a wood shop in Libby, Mont. After retiring from the wood shop, Carlyle moved to Columbia Falls, Mont. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude; father, Mike; two sisters who died at birth; his brother, Jim; uncle, Ole Mikkelson; foster sister, Dianne Iverson; foster sister-in-law, Eileen Iverson; and foster father, Joseph Iverson. Carlyle leaves behind cousins: Myron Olson, Wanda (Ralph) Steen of Arnegard, N.D.; Carol Jarvis, in Illinois and many other cousins; his foster family: Verna Iverson, of Williston, N.D.; siblings: David (Tina) Iverson, Ballantine, Mont., Dean Iverson Ferndale, Wash., Deanna Iverson (Art Lopez), San Jose, Calif., good friend Sharon Hanson in Grand Forks, N.D., along with a large host of good friends.
The family asks that memorials be sent to Wings for cancer at Kalispell Regional Hospital, 310 Sunnyview Lane, Kalispell, Mont., 59901.
There will be a cookie and coffee reception held at Columbia Mortuary on Saturday, March 14, 2015, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to celebrate Carlyle’s life.
