Mildred Wangerud
Mildred Wangerud, 84, formerly of rural Alexander, died September, 25, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City, N.D.
Mildred O. (Mickey) Wangerud was born on April 14, 1930, to parents Joe Lien and Ruth E. Tibbits Lien in Alexander, N.D.
Mickey attended grade school in the two room school in Charbonneau, N.D. She then attended and graduated from Williston High School in 1948.
Mickey married Ray Monson on December 10, 1948. They lived in Alexander for a time and then moved to the farm where they lived for several years. They were one of the founding families of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
Mickey worked at the senior citizen’s home in Arnegard as well as helping with farm work and being an assessor for McKenzie County.
Mickey, Ray and their four children then moved to Sidney, Mont., where Mickey worked at Richland Homes and the Richland County Treasurer’s Office as well as at Sears and as an assistant for the Optometrist Dr. Nelson.
After Ray’s passing she married William Stewart and lived in Livingston, Mont., for several years. Then after Bill’s passing she married Norman Wangerud of Bozeman, Mont.
Mickey and Norm enjoyed traveling together, going to Norway (the second time for Mickey) and the surrounding countries. They settled back in Alexander, N.D., but they would also travel to Zapata in south Texas as “snowbirds” each winter. They made many lasting friendships there with others from all over the country.
Mickey was always very active and held office in many organizations such as the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, both in which she started the “Flags of Honor” programs in Sidney, Mont., and Alexander N.D. She was a member of the Living Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Watford City, N.D. She was also a very active member of the Sons of Norway as well as working at the Railroad Museum in Livingston, Mont., and the Lewis and Clark Trail Museum in Alexander, N.D., for many years. Mickey also wrote the Alexander News for the McKenzie County Farmer for several years. Mickey would never shy away from holding office in these organizations as well as encouraging others to do their part as well.
Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruth Lien; and her husbands, Ray Monson, William Stewart, and Norman Wangerud. She was also preceded in death by her son, Ray David Monson and step-son Roger Wangerud, as well as her loving daughter, Patricia C Wagner. She was also preceded in death by her best friend and Sister, Shirley Bottke.
Mickey is survived by two sisters, Pat (Chuck) Owan of Chandler, Ariz. and Margie Brown of Pasco, Wash.; two daughters, Joann Perez of Laredo, Texas; Susan (Duane) Kruckenberg of Menoken, N.D.; son-in-law Ronald Wagner of Devine, Texas; five grandchildren, John Foutch of Garland, Texas; Michelle Perez of New Orleans, La.; Michael Perez of Laredo, Texas; Suzanne Brown of El Reno, Okla.; Korena Thompson of Bismarck, N.D.; eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, four stepchildren, several step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Alexander Cemetery in Alexander, N.D.
