Doris Hystad

Doris Hystad, 97 of Watford City, N.D., passed away at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015.
Doris Mondlea Rundhaug Hystad was born to, Magnus and Mattie Rundhaug of Wildrose, N.D. on June 24, 1918. Her two brothers Ruben and LeRoy completed the family.
She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.
After her parent’s separation, she lived with her mother in British Columbia, Canada, Wash. and Idaho, attending grades first through fourth. After returning to N.D. she completed eighth grade at Pleasant Valley school in Berg, N.D. She graduated as Salutatorian from Minot Model High School in 1938.
She worked as a babysitter during her high school years and worked for a year for Dr. W. Nelson of Minot, N.D. She returned to McKenzie County  and was employed at Anthony’s Café in Watford City.
In 1940, Doris married O.J. Anderson, a former resident living in Minn. They had two children, James and Curtis. When Mr. Anderson passed away in 1947, Doris returned to Watford City.
In 1949, she married Elery Hystad, a farmer and rancher of Farland Township. They had one daughter, Virginia. In 1982, they retired and moved to Watford City to live and enjoyed their new home. Elery passed away in April of 2004. She resided in her later years at the Horizon Assisted living and the last five years at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
She loved her family and her time with them. She enjoyed the outdoors, the farm, flowers, reading and her faithful dear friends. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was a member of the Sons of Norway.
She is survived by her son, James and wife Carol of Belgrade, Mont.; her daughter, Virginia Ceynar and husband David of Arnegard, N.D.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grand children; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Hystad of Williston, N.D.; nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Ole J. Anderson; her second husband, Elery Hystad; son, Curtis Anderson; brother-in-law, Dallas Hystad; sister-in-law, Alva Lawrence and brother-in-law, Frank Lawrence; great grandchild Taylor Nelson; and 2 infant great-grandchildren, Faith and Hope Johnson.
 Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. ,Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at the First Lutheran Church in Watford City, N.D. Pastor Mark Honstein will officiate. Burial will be in the Shafer Cemetery, Watford City, N.D.
