Jacob Heiser

Funeral services for Jacob Heiser, 87, of Dickinson, N.D., were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dickinson.
Jacob passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010, at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Jacob was born on June 6, 1922, to John and Katie Heiser in Dickinson. He grew up and attended country school in the Grassy Butte area. Jacob worked with his parents on the family ranch, which he later took over with his brother, Anton. Together they operated the farm and ranch until 2005, when they sold it. Jacob moved into Dickinson with his brother, Anton, and his sister-in-law, Jane, where they have made their home since. In addition to ranching, Jacob was a rural mail carrier for 25 years. In his younger years, the mail was delivered by horse and wagon. Jacob enjoyed reading, and if something broke down, he would read about it so that he could fix it himself. His pride was his love for the farm. Jacob was very proud to have shared his life with his special niece and nephew, Georgie and Jeremy. He treated them as if they were his own. Jacob was considered a perfectionist in whatever he did. Jacob was a member of the Grassy Butte Community Club, Grassy Butte Firemen, and St. Peter Canisius Catholic Church in Grassy Butte.
Jacob is survived by four brothers, Anton (Jane) Heiser, Dickinson, N.D., Christ (Ilene) Heiser, Grassy Butte, N.D., Fred (Dorothy) Heiser, Bozeman, Mont., and Frank (Francis) Heiser, Lovell, Wyo.; two sisters, Barbara (John) Metz, South Heart, N.D., and Katherine Eberts, Dickinson, N.D.; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and three sisters.
