Kathleen Hovland


Kathleen Hovland, 69, of Fargo, N.D., died Monday, July 5, 2010, at her home in Fargo. A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Fairview Alliance Church in Fairview, Mont., and inurnment followed at the Fairview Cemetery.
Kathleen (Kay) Waddell Hovland was born April 2, 1941, in Mott, N.D., to Wendell and Zola Bushart Waddell. Kay attended Mott Public School. After her marriage to David Hovland, they lived in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. She and David owned and managed B.O.S., an oilfield welding and roustabout company in Fairview, Mont., for 25 years.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Kay was a woman of great wit with a creative sense of humor. She was generous with her possessions, her time and her compassion. She was devoted to her family, and wherever she lived she had close friends. Her life was characterized by strength, wisdom and laughter. Her faith in God and her courageous tenacity marked the battle she fought with cancer. Her family and friends always found a sensitive listener who would provide wise counsel, encouragement and prayer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hovland, and her parents.
Survivors include her children: Rick and Avis Hovland of Berthold, N.D.; Mark and Delores Hovland of Centerville, Va.; Suzanne and Tom Clifton of White Hall, Ark.; Becky and Ted Schulz of Watford City, N.D.; and Davey Hovland II of Fargo; and siblings, Leota Neigum of Bismarck, N.D.; Joyce Hovland of Watford City; DeVonne Waddell of Worley, Idaho; Jeannine Waddell of Spokane, Wash.; Denise Floch of Plummer Idaho; Sherrie Goody of Melrose, Mont.; and her brother, Bill Waddell of Worley, Idaho.
