Joseph Frick

Joseph Roy Frick, 80, of Watford City, N.D., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in Watford City. Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Epiphany Catholic Church in Watford City.  Father John Pfeifer officiated and interment was held at Schafer Cemetery. Joseph Roy Frick was born July 3, 1930, to Albert and Mae (Dolan) Frick at Northgate, N.D. He was raised on a farm in this small portal community in Burke County. He was educated in rural schools. As a young man he helped on the family farm and as a farm laborer for the neighbors.
Roy was drafted in the United States Army on Oct. 16, 1951, at Fargo, N.D., and served during the Korean Conflict. He was raised to the rank of Sergeant and honorably discharged with the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars on July 16, 1953, at Ft. Lewis, Wash. After his discharge, Roy returned to Bowbells, where he worked for Nelson Oil.
On Nov. 6, 1958, Roy was united in marriage to Agnes Olson in Kenmare, N.D. The couple lived in Kenmare, and Roy worked at Peterson John Deere in the parts department.  He also worked in the oil field for a time as a roughneck. The couple later returned to Bowbells, where he worked for the Melland family at the local John Deere.
In 1966, Roy and Agnes moved to Watford City, where he worked at OK Implement. In 1976, they moved to Jamestown, but moved back to Watford City in 1979. Roy went back to work at OK Implement and was employed there for nearly 40 years.
He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and was active in his grandchildren’s lives and all of their activities. Roy was truly a gentle soul and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Roy is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Watford City; sons, Darius (Marna) Frick of Watford City, Dean (Charlene) Frick of Montgomery, Minn., and Duane (Missie) Frick of Watford City; daughter, Tammy (Tom) Kalberer of Watford City; grandchildren, Zane, Zach, Reese, Kayla, Blake, Dakota, Sierra, Nolan and Trevor; brother, Richard (Betty) Frick of Minot, N.D.; sister, Agnes Peterson of Minot, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward; sisters, Elizabeth and Clara Ann; and grandson, Levi Frick.
