Arne Harms
Funeral services for Arne G. Harms will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Keene First Lutheran Church, with Rev. Tim Swenson officiating. Interment will follow the service at Redeemer Cemetery, east of Keene, N.D. Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Williston on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
Arne Gunther Harms was born Dec. 5, 1922, and died Aug. 5, 2010, at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home in Williston, N.D. with his daughter by his side.
Arne was the first born on the Harms farmstead in Keene, N.D. to Gunther and Kirsten (Strand) Harms. He attended country school and in Plaza until he began helping on the farm. He enlisted in the United States Army on Nov. 16, 1944, during World War II. He was a supply sergeant in Germany, where he served until Sept. 30, 1946. He then returned home to farm and raise cattle.
Arne married Edith Helen Tank on Sept. 17, 1948, and enjoyed 52 years of marriage, until her death (in 2001).
After his retirement, he enjoyed his free time by mowing grass and doing maintenance at the local cemetery. He loved visiting with his family and friends, and he always made it a point to remember to send a card for every special occasion to those he loved.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Watford City, N.D. He was also a member of the 50 Years in the Saddle Club. He served on the board for McKenzie Electric and was the secretary for the local 3T Farmers Union for many years.
Arne was the best dad and grandpa we could have asked for. He knew what love meant and told us every day. If you were ever around Arne, you were always greeted with a handshake and a “hello.” He was a very appreciative man, always using his manners saying “please” and “thank you.” He will leave many memories of himself with his honesty, love and compassion.
He is survived by his daughter and best friend, Cheryl Feist and her husband, Thomas, of Williston; two grandsons, Tommy and his wife, Dawn, of Bismarck, N.D., and Travis Feist and Angie Schwartz of Bismarck.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Edith; one infant daughter, Georgia Carol; two brothers, Penn and Curtis; one sister, Gloria Wold; his parents, Gunther and Kirsten; four brother-in-laws, Austin and Boise Tank, Pete Thomas and Ralph Wold; and two sister-in-laws, Lucille Thomas and Phyllis Tank.
