Irene Henderson
Irene Henderson, 92, of Arnegard, N.D., more recently of the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City, died at the home on Monday, Aug. 9, 2010. Friends may sign the on-line register book and give their condolences at www.fulkersons.com.
Her funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at the Wilmington Lutheran Church in Arnegard. Pastor Tim Swenson officiated and interment took place in the Wilmington Cemetery, Arnegard.
Irene was born on Dec. 24, 1917, in Arnegard, the daughter of Lars and Anna (Arlien) Rondestvedt. She was baptized and confirmed in the Wilmington Lutheran Church. Irene was raised and educated in Arnegard, graduating in 1935. Her class was the largest class in Arnegard’s history, of which she was very proud. As a young woman, Irene worked for the A.O. Arnegard Sr. family and later moved to Fargo where she worked for the Armour Meat Packing Company.
On Aug. 9, 1941, Irene was united in marriage to James Henderson in Grand Rapids, Minn. While James was serving his country in World War II, Irene stayed in Arnegard with her family until James returned, and they lived in Fargo. In the mid 1950s, the family returned to Arnegard. After raising her children, Irene worked at Meyers Department Store in Watford City. She also was the Arnegard Town Auditor for over 20 years. James passed away in 1995, and Irene continued to live in Arnegard before entering the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City in 2005, where she has been a resident since.
Irene was a life-long member of Wilmington Lutheran Church and was active in WELCA. Irene was a wonderful vocalist and shared her gift of music for weddings, funerals and community events.
She enjoyed crocheting and playing cards with her friends.
Irene is survived by two sons, Lawrence (Kathy) Henderson of Zumbrota, Minn., and James (Jolene) Henderson Jr. of LaBarge, Wyo.; one daughter, Irene Ann (Bruce)
MacLean of Billings, Mont., ten grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin brother, Irvin; four other brothers, Melvin, Leonard, Odin and Gilbert; and two sisters, Signe and Olga “Babe.”
