Gilbert Christianson

Gilbert O. Christianson, 88, of Watford City, N.D., died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in Watford City. Friends may sign the online register book and give their condolences at www.fulkersons.com.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service was held at Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Tim Swenson officiated. Inurnment with military rites followed at the Alexander Cemetery in Alexander, N.D.
Gilbert “Gillie” was born in rural Alexander on July 24, 1922, the son of Haakon and Minda (Berg) Christianson. He was baptized at Highland Church and went to Moline school through the eighth grade. As a young man, Gilbert helped on the family farm. Gilbert entered the United States Army Air Corps after World War II and served at Malstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Mont. After his honorable discharge, Gilbert returned home and started his business, Gillie’s Painting, and was a professional painter and perfortaper. He worked in the Alexander and Watford City area for many years.
In the late 1960s, Gilbert moved to Watford City, where he could be close to his mother, who resided at the Good Shepherd Home. He has been a resident of Watford City since.
Gilbert is survived by four nephews: Peter Helling and Bruce Helling of Alexander, and Gerry Rod and David Rod of Williston, N.D.; and four nieces: Helen Sauer of Savage, Minn., Lois Erickson of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Bonnie Evanson of Livingston, Mont., and Frankie Burman of Sidney, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Clarence Christianson; three sisters, Mabel David, Josie Helling and Dora Rod; and one niece, Olive Glasoe.
