It’s not too early to start sorting through your favorite barbecue rib recipe and organizing a team for  Watford City’s Ribfest 2013.
That is the message that the planning committee is getting out now that they have set the date for this year’s event for Friday, Aug. 9.
Ribfest will once again be held on Watford City’s Main Street with the daylong event kicking off at 10 a.m. with a Street Fair and concessions.
This year, the rib contest will take place at 5 p.m. with a $1,000 prize to be awarded to the team with the best ribs. The second place team will take home $500 and there will be a $250 prize for booth showmanship.
The public will also get a chance to vote for their favorite ribs and the winning team will receive Ribfest T-shirts and the coveted “People’s Choice” award.
The day will be filled with live music from local talent Jessie Veeder, Lonesome Willy, Getting’ Outta Dodge and Jeff Meyer. Other events include inflatable kids’ games, train rides, a dunk tank and a children’s “Showdown” at noon where prizes will be awarded for the best western wear.
“This event has quickly become a huge success and it gets bigger and better each year,” said Janel Lee, committee member. “It’s a great way to unwind, engage in friendly competition and celebrate the best things about summer and our community.”
During the day, the public will also be able to enjoy the Classic Car Show and a few friendly rounds of Bingo.
Other events will include street vendors and several ping pong drops that will offer special deals from Main Street businesses. And the night will end with a street dance starting at 8 p.m. on Main Street featuring the national touring band “Smokehouse.”
The Best of the West Ribfest is limited to 20 teams. If you’re interested in registering a team, sign up by June 1 to receive $50 off your registration. Teams, food and craft vendors and Classic Car Show participants may register online at www.watfordcityribfest.net.
