In honor of National Bullying Awareness Month, the 6th grade students of Watford City Intermediate School are getting busy with activities to raise awareness and stomp out bullying in the community.
This year, Lorri Zenz, Watford City Intermediate School 6th grade math teacher, is the one who’s spearheading it.
“It’s something we’ve started this year,” says Zenz. “Other years we’ve done a little bit, but this year we’re doing an activity every week of the month.”
According to Brad Foss, Watford City Intermediate School principal, the school has several programs to raise awareness of bullying, such as the safe and civil curriculum, the Second Step program and through D.A.R.E. But he says it never hurts to add to these initiatives.
“We have lots of different programs that address this issue. Obviously, it’s still happening, but we’re always trying to take steps where we can minimize bullying as much as possible,” says Foss.
