Following a meeting in regular session on Friday, March 18, the McKenzie County Board of Commissioners has appointed Linda Svihovec to fill the position of McKenzie County Auditor until the General Election of November, 2012. The effective date of the appointment is April 1, 2011.
The county commissioners elected to fill the position by appointment following the Feb. 14 resignation of Jodi L. Hanson. Hanson was elected as the McKenzie County Auditor during last November’s General Election. However, prior to taking office, she tendered her resignation.
“I wasn’t looking for a change,” says Svihovec. “But with everything that is happening in the county right now, I knew that it would be very difficult for someone to come into the auditor’s position if they had not been previously working in the Treasurer’s Office or the Auditor’s Office. So when the opportunity presented itself, I decided I was up for the challenge.”
Svihovec has been the McKenzie County Treasurer since September 1995.  She has resigned that position effective March 31, 2011.
“Deputy Treasurer Bonnie Johnsrud has been my deputy for 15 years, so I am confident that she will be able to take over my duties until a replacement is found,” adds Svihovec. “Once a new treasurer has been appointed, Bonnie and I will both be available to help train them, so I am confident that the Treasurer’s Office will continue to operate without any problems.”
The Board of Commissioners will be accepting applications of interest with resumes for the treasurer position.  The successful applicant will serve in that position until the General Election of November, 2012.
A position announcement with information for submitting an application will be published March 23 and 30 in the McKenzie County Farmer.  It is expected that the appointment will be made during April to be effective May 1, 2011.
