David Hoffmann

David Louis Hoffmann, age 68, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 at Cooperstown Medical Center after a strong, courageous battle against cancer.
David was born Dec. 1, 1951, in Williston, N.D., to Victor and Phyllis (Miller) Hoffmann. David was raised and lived happily on the family farm southeast of Watford City, N.D. He attended Watford City High School and graduated with the class of 1969. He attended North Dakota State University for three years to study Agriculture. On May 25, 1974, he married Denae Marie Schafer. They made a loving home on the Hoffmann family farm and welcomed two beautiful daughters, Cia and Jana.
David loved his life on the family farm, spending time in his tractor or combine working the land each year, fixing equipment whether it wanted to cooperate or not, mowing the lawn, and fixing up his old 1967, 1968, and 1969 Camaros. Traveling with family and friends was something he cherished. He enjoyed taking time to make it to every event of both of his daughters and his four grandchildren. He was so proud of each and every one of them and made sure they all knew how much they were loved.
David was proud to serve as a board member on the Watford City Livestock Association, Farmer’s Union Co-op, the McKenzie County School Board, RTC, and most recently the Dakota West Credit Union. He also enjoyed being the assistant coach during Jana’s last years playing hockey and continued to coach her younger teammates for years after. David loved golfing whenever possible, hockey, camping with family, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
David is survived by his loving wife, Denae; adoring daughters, Cia (Jayson) Gronneberg of Cooperstown, N.D., Jana Hoffmann and significant other Dave Appert of Bismarck, N.D.; four amazing and truly loved grandchildren, Emmee and significant other Zack Campbell, Hunter, Jaxon, and Jersey Gronneberg of Cooperstown, N.D.; brothers, Gene (Margo) Hoffmann of Nicolette, Minn., Gary (Cindy) Hoffmann of New Salem, N.D., Mark (Linda) Hoffmann of Sutton, Vt.; sister, Vicki (Sid) Hauge of Williston; and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; many relatives; and dear friends along the way.
The Funeral Mass for David was held at the Epiphany Catholic Church in Watford City on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, presided by Father Brian Gross. Interment was in the Schafer Cemetery near Watford City.
