Duane Boots
Duane Boots, 71, of Watford City, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in Watford City. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, in the Fulkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Watford City, N.D. Rev. Chris Montgomery will officiate, and interment with military honors will follow at the Schafer Cemetery, Watford City. Duane was born March 31, 1939, in Watford City, to Lajoie and Florance (Murray) Boots. He was the third of four children. Duane (Jake) graduated from Watford City High School in 1957. In 1958, he joined the army and served until 1962.
After returning home from the service, he met Janice Jensen, and on Sept. 14, 1963, they were married. In 1965, they moved to Washington, where they raised five children: Joie, Tana, Gerald, Warren, and Luaine. While enjoying their lives with their kids, they were blessed with ten grandchildren: Dustein, Cody, Patrick, Averyn, Jerry’d, Cheyanne, Colton, Korey, Preston, and Lacey.
He loved being with his grandkids and watching them grow. When he wasn’t with grandkids, he enjoyed being in the garage, fixing up cars and building things. He also enjoyed playing pool or shuffle board with family and friends. Duane worked as a welder/mechanic for Sea-Land in Tacoma, Wash., until he retired in 1996. They moved back to North Dakota in 1997 to spend the retired years together.
Duane is survived by his wife, Janice, of Watford City; daughters, Tana and Luaine, of Watford City; sons, Gerald of Kent, Wash., and Warren of Watford City; and sister, Joyce Rogness of Watford City, as well as all of his ten grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mava Cook and Wanda Timmer; one son, Joie Boots; his fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law; and nieces, Star Bensen and Christine Jensen.
