Geneva Wahus

Geneva Wahus went to be with her Lord on Jan. 12, 2013, at her residence in Norman, Okla., surrounded by her family.
Geneva was born in McKenzie County, N.D., on Nov. 17, 1917, to Oliver and Loriene Barnhart.
Geneva was a homemaker, raising her children and working beside her husband on their farm.
She was very active in her church, the Banks Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as president of the Ladies Aide.
She was a talented artist painting beautiful scenery pictures. She loved to do crafts, making stuffed dolls and animals. Geneva was noted for her beautiful wedding cakes and designing and sewing wedding dresses. People came from miles around having her make one or both for them. She was an expert seamstress, making most of her own clothes, her daughter’s clothes, plus sewing for other people.
Upon retiring, she and John sold their farm, had a house built, and moved into Watford City where she was very active at the Senior Citizen Center. Geneva was a leader for Weight Watchers, helping herself and many others lose many unwanted pounds. In 1998, she moved to Gresham, Ore., to be close to her siblings. Then in 2005, she moved to Oklahoma to be close to family.
She attended The Full Circle adult day care and looked forward to going every day. She called it her “school.” She was very kind, always making sure everyone was happy and contented. She will be greatly missed.
Geneva is survived by her daughters, Gloria Madden and husband Harvey, of Norman, Okla., Sharon Beligotti of Anchorage, Alaska; and Richard Wahus and wife Mary Jane of Elida, Ohio; sister, Loriene Rankin of Hayden, Idaho; brother, John Barnhart of Gresham, Ore., eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; one sister, Nora Grubb; and two brothers, Orville and Corwin Barnhart.
Interment will be in the Schaffer cemetery in Watford City, N.D., with a memorial service to follow in the spring.
