Geraldine Godes

Geraldine S. Godes, 69, of Dickinson, died Sun., July 8, at her home surrounded by her family. Geraldine’s funeral service was held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating.  Interment took place at the Keene Lutheran Cemetery, Charlson. On July 8, we lost Geraldine, the most beautiful, generous and strongest woman we knew. She left us after a short courageous battle with cancer.
Geraldine Sandra Grimestad was born Nov. 27, 1942 in Minot, to Selmer and Evelyn (Frederick) Grimestad. She grew up on a farm near Charlson, with her parents and two brothers, Lyman and Wayne.  They then moved to New Town where she graduated from high school.
She was married to John Turner and had two beautiful daughters, Kimberly Braun, New England, and Kaylene (Curt) Haider, Dickinson.
She then found her best friend and life-long partner, Ervin. Geraldine and Ervin were married July 31, 1976, and lived in Dickinson. She always said the greatest gift Ervin gave her was his children, Terri (Lee) Eberts, of  Dickinson, Melinda Schoch, of Anchorage, Alaska, Curt (Tammy) Godes, of Englewood, Colo., and Stacey Muth, Bismarck, N.D.
Geraldine was lucky enough to find a job she enjoyed, and liked the people she worked with. She worked at Stark County Social Services for 29 years, and retired in 2005.
Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, Shane Stangle, Brian Braun, Alexis Braun, Deven Turner, Jordyn Ebbole, Erin (Ace) Bedich, Josh (Lorrissa) Bohlman, Codi (Boon) Newsom, Holly (Tony) Schamber, Kelsie Schoch, Myranda Muth and Nathan Muth and great-grandchildren, Cade Bohlman, Grace and Lola Bedich, and Jaxson Schamber. She is survived by her brother, Wayne Grimestad, of Dickinson, N.D.
Geraldine enjoyed weekends at the lake with her family. She also had her Monday night quilting with her very special quilting friends. She enjoyed volunteering with Amen Food Pantry.  Geraldine and Ervin enjoyed many trips with family and friends. As a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, she gave of herself always and no one ever left her home hungry or without good company.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Les Madsen; her brother, Lyman Grimestad; and sons-in-law, Roger Bohlman and Allen Stangle. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Badlands Ministries, P.O. Box 305, Medora, ND 58645
