Joe Kordonowy

Joe Kordonowy, 81, passed away July 6, 2018 at his home in Thermopolis, Wyo., surrounded by family.
Joe was born August 23, 1936, to William and Pauline (Syminow) Kordonowy at the family farm near Fryburg, N.D. After graduation from high school he served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed touring several European countries during his service.
Joe excelled at his careers as a carpenter and in the oilfield. Later, he and his wife, Alice Faye, purchased the Elk Horn Bar in Meeteetse, Wyo., where they made friends with people from throughout the country. After 21 years they retired to Thermopolis.
An avid hunter, Joe was especially proud of the bighorn sheep and moose he harvested at the age of 75 and 81 respectively.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Alice Faye; his children, Joan Maser, Diane (Kent) Luttschwager, Paul (Carole) Kordonowy, David (Sadie) Kordonowy and Beth (Dave) Roberson; stepsons, Kenny and Dennie AuFrance, their families; and his former wife, Betty; as well as 23 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his siblings, Bill (Betty) Kordonowy, Rose (Dale) Shaw, Bernard (Cindy) Kordonow;, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Charles; and son-in-law, John Maser.
Visitation was held Wednesday, July 11, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., at Mortimore Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 12, 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Thermopolis Reverend Joe Galligan officiated. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery.
