Katharine Ereth
Mass of Christian Burial services for Katharine Ereth, 76, of Fargo, (formerly Williston) will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the Riverview Place chapel in Fargo, N.D. Burial will follow at the Schafer cemetery in Watford, N.D. There will be a memorial service at Everson Funeral Home in Williston, N.D., on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 4:00 p.m. Kathi went to heaven Sunday, Dec.16, 2012, at Sanford Palliative Care Center, Fargo, N.D.
Katharine Naomi (Avery) Ereth was born July 4, 1936, in Banks, N.D., to Harry and Mary Avery, on what was said to be the hottest day of the century. Her mother was so concerned about the other kids being around baby Katharine that she sent them to the pasture with their father to shoot firecrackers. Harry predicted Kathi would become an independent woman, since she was born on Independence Day.
Kathi attended first grade in Banks and moved to Watford City at the age of seven with her family. There she finished high school with honors at the age of 17. She immediately found employment at the Farmers Union office where she worked for three years until her marriage.
Kathi and Harold Duaine Ereth were married June 11, 1956. They moved to Williston on Good Friday, 1961. To this union were born eight children; twins, Michael and Frank who died shortly after birth, Mark (Karen Hastings) of Rochester, Minn., Carmaine (Steve Ternes) of Emporia, Kan., Julie of Fargo, Pam (Larry Sayler) of Minneapolis, Minn., Dianne of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jennifer (Tim McNamara) of Grenora, N.D., along with 10 living grandchildren. Her many accomplishments include involvement with Right to Life. When abortion turned into a national political issue, Kathi became passionately involved and served as local chairperson, state officer, and national delegate in the span of 25 years.
Kathi raised six children, and worked various jobs in the accounting field. After taking accounting classes, she worked at H&R Block and Stillwell Accounting until forming her own accounting and tax firm. Ever the entrepreneur, she continued working through 2012, before retiring to Riverview Place in Fargo.
Music was most important, and Kathi learned to play piano, organ, keyboard, and accordion at an early age. She also enjoyed reading, book clubs, watching Jeopardy, gardening, cross word puzzles, and creating cross word puzzles. Serving on numerous church organizations including parish president, Parent Teacher Association, and the school board were some interests.
Kathi was preceded in death by her parents; many siblings; twin children; and one grandson.
