Larry Kummer

Larry John Kummer, 52, a lifelong resident of Watford City passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, due to a heart attack, while in the oil patch, doing what he loved to do.
His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Watford City. Pastor Rob Favorite and Mark Honstein officiated and interment was in the Zoar Cemetery, southwest of Watford City.
Larry was born, Dec. 30, 1960, to William “Jack” and Vera Kummer in Williston, N.D. The eldest of three children, he attended Watford City High School, where he was a state champion and all-state football player. He had a great group of friends throughout school and his whole life.  While in high school he met the love of his life, Pamela (Dumdai), during their junior year. Pam was a transfer student and immediately they became friends. They graduated high school, were married July 11, 1981, and were inseparable the rest of Larry’s life. They had two children, Jeff and Cassie, and made their home in Watford City.
Larry was a member of the Lutheran church, where he spent two years as confirmation leader. He was also a volunteer fireman for 20 years where he established lifelong relationships with the men he served with. The fire department was a big part of Larry’s life and one of his many commitments to the community. He was also active with the local hockey program, an outdoorsman, and a lover of the late summer harvest in western North Dakota. Most summers were spent at the lake, where countless memories were created with his family. He also enjoyed many years golfing in the Men’s League, where he and his partner, Mitch, never made the playoffs … he brought that up often. Larry adored his grandchildren, and they adored him. He lived for entertaining them.
Larry formed many relationships in the oil patch, where he made his career from age 17, when he first began work on a drilling rig. Over the years, Larry worked for Getty, Texaco, Amerada Hess, and for the past several years, was an oilfield consultant. Most recently, he was working alongside his son in the very active western North Dakota oil patch.
Larry and Pam lived life together, and were actively planning their retirement in Arizona when Larry’s life was cut short.
Larry is survived by his wife, Pam of Watford City, N.D.; children, Jeff Kummer (Valerie) and their three children Blake (4), Christian (3), and Livia (2 mos.) of Watford City, N.D., Cassie Golde (Curtis) and their daughter Delaney (3) of Kenmare, N.D.; sister, Gail Wold (Bruce) of Jamestown; nieces, Paige (Clint) Cermak and Lauren (Robby) Trefethren both of Fargo, N.D.; brother, Steve Kummer of Alexander, N.D.; and mother, Vera Kummer of Watford City.
He was preceded in death by his father, William “Jack” Kummer, along with his father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Lola Dumdai.
Friends called at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services.
