Lewis Painter

A Memorial Service with Military Honors was held for Lewis Orlan Painter (Louie) on Sunday, May 12, in Portland, Ore. Louie passed away May 6, 2013, at Portland Adventist Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Louie was born Oct. 14, 1943, to Homer and Jean Painter of Alexander, N.D. Louie grew up and attended school in Alexander, N.D., where he excelled at track and field events, and participated in the Golden Gloves program. Louie graduated in 1961, and at age 17, he entered military basic training in Fort Riley, Kan., and served for six and a half years in the National Guard in Williston, N.D., where his troop was put on alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Louie moved to Portland in 1964, and owned and operated Painter's Painting and Decorating until his retirement in 2010. Louie was an avid fisherman who enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his family and friends. He dearly loved his animals, which included his dog, Molly, and five cats. Louie had a very kind heart and left his many children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews with fond memories of their times together. Louie loved playing shuffleboard and listening to his family play music every Sunday at Celebrities.
Louie is survived by his wife Betty Painter of Wood Village, Ore.; his son, Troy (Angela) Painter of Surprise, Ariz.; his daughter, Heather Painter of Mississippi; stepchildren, Todd (Annette) Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., Julie (Jason) Johnson of Clackamas, Ore., Tracy Hall of Milwaukee, Ore., Joey, Dennis, and Lisa Luther of Portland, Ore.; and siblings, Gary (Cherry) Painter of Keyes, Okla., Sharon (Larry) Mindt, Ryan Painter, Carla (Terry) Houchen, Melody (Doug) Copeland, Ronda (Marvin) Welnel all of Sidney, Mont., Marva (Rick) Herman, Lisa (Lance) Kalfell both of Terry, Mont., Patty (James) Lakey of Tioga, N.D.; and 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Louie is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Jenny Mae Painter, brothers David and Lane Painter, nephew Terry Gene Houchen, great- niece Sophia Girard, great-nephew Christopher Brundidge, and stepson Richie Guenther.
