Melissa Brodhead

In memoriam. A Celebration of Life for sisters Melissa J. Sipe Cook Brodhead and Harriet McDaniel will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the Lutheran Church in Grassy Butte, N.D.
Melissa J. Sipe Cook Brodhead, 82, passed away on Nov. 7, 2010, while in the Highland Manor Assisted Living care facility in Elko, Nev. She was born on Aug. 10, 1928, to Marvin and Ruby Sipe in Grassy Butte. Melissa attended school in the area, and remained in the area after her marriage to Price Francis Cook Jr., and the birth of her five children.
Melissa later moved to Deer Lodge, Mont., in 1966, where she pursued a career in the nursing field. She retired from the Montana State Hospital at Galen, Mont., in the early 1990s, and remained in the area until six months prior to her death, at which time she moved to Elko, Nev., to be closer to her family.
She loved ceramics, sewing, gardening, canning, and spending time making handmade treasures for her family. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her most valued treasure was the time spent on researching her family genealogy and sharing the experience with her family and friends. This will be a treasured document for future generations to share and add to.
Melissa is survived by her children: Roger Cook (Cookie), Missoula, Mont.; Frances Sivertson (Ken), Green Valley, Ariz.; Marie Cook, Round Mountain, Nev.; Buster Cook (Phyllis), Round Mountain, Nev.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Melissa was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Gene Cook; and her brothers, Neal Sipe, Leo Sipe, Wayne Sipe, and Clinton Sipe. Her sister, Harriet McDaniel, passed away five days after Melissa’s death, on Nov. 12, 2010.
Melissa’s ashes were laid to rest at the Grassy Butte Cemetery in a private service held by her children.
