Phyllis Ufer

Phyllis Juliet Anderson Ufer, 98½, of Tacoma, Wash., passed away on July 1, 2014. She was born on Oct. 7, 1915, the second of six children of Anton and Thea Anderson in Berg, N.D.
After graduation from Watford City High School, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1938. In 1939, while teaching in Reardan, Wash., she met the new pastor, Karl Ufer, and the two were married in 1945 at the end of WWII.  
Karl served the Lutheran church with Phyllis in Dallas, Ore., (1946-51), Pullman Wash., (1953-72) and Spokane Wash., (1972-81) until Karl's death in 1981.
Phyllis moved to Tacoma Lutheran Home in 1993. She enjoyed hosting coffee hours, sewing and Hardanger embroidery, travel, and making lefse.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Margaret Rice, Lucille Helseth and Melvin Anderson.
She is survived by son, Steven Ufer (Valerie) in Tacoma Wash., daughter Sharon Ufer Lavell (Paul) in Tacoma Wash., granddaughter Kristina Ufer Ngai (Jeffrey) in Norwich, Conn.; sister, Alice Olsen in Willmar, Minn., and brother, Gerald Anderson (Jackie) in Weatherford, Texas.
