Rick Enderud

Rick Enderud passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at his home in Dickinson, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral service for Rick Enderud, 62, of Dickinson, formerly of Watford City, will be held at 1:00 p.m. CST, Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in Watford City with Pastor Rob Favorite officiating. Burial will follow at Banks Cemetery, north of Watford City.
Rick was born on July 4, 1949, in Watford City, the son of Palmer and Effie (Gunderson) Enderud. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Wilcox country school, later graduating from the Watford City High School in 1967. Rick was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Felland, on Nov. 28, 1969, in Watford City. To this union, four children were born, Ryan, Marci, Nicole and Derek. Together they farmed and ranched in the Banks Community north of Watford City. He retired from farming in 2001 when the couple moved to Dickinson, where Rick began working for the City of Dickinson until his health failed in Oct. of 2011.
Rick’s love of horses began at an early age. He was an avid team roper throughout his life, competing in and winning many events throughout the years. While growing up, music played an important part in his family as he learned to play many instruments by ear, especially the piano and accordion. Rick and his sisters always provided the music for family gatherings. In his younger years, he played guitar in a band for high school dances. Rick’s love for his family and grandchildren was of utmost importance to him. Over the years, Rick made many friends wherever he went. He kept those friends close and enjoyed every chance he had to visit with them.
Rick is survived by his mother, Effie Enderud; his wife, Cheryl Enderud; two sons, Ryan (Kaye) Enderud and their children, Erica and Bradyn of West Fargo, and Derek (Jess) Enderud of Dickinson; two daughters, Marci (Russ) Murphy and their children, Declan, Raghyn and Cullen of Dickinson, and Nicole (Scott) Crampton and their son, Wynston of Westminster, Colo; and two sisters, Muriel (Bob) Mjelstad of Spearfish, S.D., and Patti (Kenny) Leiseth of Arnegard, N.D. He was preceded in death by his father, Palmer Enderud, and one infant sister.
Memorials will be made in Rick’s name to Heartland Hospice and the Pancreatic Cancer Research Center at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
