Cross country teams off to a great start

Watford City’s cross country teams opened their season on a very strong note this past Saturday when the Wolves competed in the Spring Lake Invitational in Williston.
The Watford City varsity girls  team captured first place with five runners placing in the top 10, while the boys varsity team took second place with five runners also placing in the top 10.
Asha Smith, who is considered the premier girls runner in Class B, ran away from the competition as she turned in a time of 11:43 to win the girls 3K run.
Also placing for the Wolves varsity girls team was McKayla Haugeberg, 5th, 13:16; Addison Sundeen, 6th, 13.29; Lea Arndt, 7th, 13:40; Kara Wold, 8th, 13:43; Tara Loomer, 10th, 14:03; Katie Skarda, 11th, 14:09; Marissa Iriziany, 12th, 14:09 and Hayley Moe, 14th, 14:33.
Guy Ross was the top finisher for the Watford City boys varsity team as he finished in second place in the 4K run with a time of 15:31.
Also placing for the varsity boys team was Logan Gumke, 3rd, 16:35; Michael Brown, 4th, 16:42; and Ted Ramage, 9th, 18:59.
In the junior high division, the Watford City boys team took second place with five runners placing in the top 10.
Placing for the Wolves in the 3K run was Devin Schmitz, 3rd, 12:44; Braedon Gumke, 4th, 13:07; Hunter DeFoe, 8th, 14:32; Dakota Garman, 9th, 14:34; and Cale Bandlein, 10th, 14:46.
