For Jackson Faller, Connor Dennis and Braedon Gumke, three seniors on the Watford City High School boys track team, the 2018 State Class B Track Meet was their last chance to shine.
And the trio did more than just shine. They dominated as their combined individual finishes at State accounted for 36 of the Wolves’ 48.50 points to lead the W.C.H.S. boys team to a fifth place finish in their final year of competition at the Class B level.
Faller captured first place at State in the discus with a throw of 162’9” and in the process shattered the former W.C.H.S. school record in the event of 158’8” set by Greg Tank in 1971. Faller, who also holds the school record in the shot put of 54’5”, took second place in his final appearance at the State Class B Track Meet with a throw of 53’2”.
“The highlight of the state meet was Jackson Faller winning the discus with a school record throw of 162’9”,” stated Dave Gumke, boys head coach. “Jackson has had a very good year in his throwing events. He was very consistent throughout the year.”
Dennis was equally impressive at State as he broke his own W.C.H.S. school record of 39.55 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles as he placed second with a time of 38.55. Dennis, who also holds the school record in the 110 meter hurdles of 14.83 seconds, placed second at State with a time of 15.01.
