With a good number of athletes out for volleyball this season, Nancy Deutsch, Wolves’ head coach, sees a lot of promise for the coming year. But with a loss of seven seniors from last year’s squad, she also knows that this is going to be a rebuilding season.
“I’m really excited about this year’s volleyball program,” stated Deutsch. “We have 30 girls out for the high school team and 25 in our junior high program.”
But even with good numbers, Deutsch knows that the loss of seven seniors due to graduation is going to leave her with an inexperienced team.
“We only have four returning varsity players, McKayla Haugeberg, Charlie Hystad, Brianna Allex and Amanda Mogen, from last year,” says Deutsch. “But a lot of the girls put in time playing volleyball this summer, as well as attending camps and participating in open gym, so I think that as the season goes along, we will get better and better.”
Members of this year’s varsity squad include Hystad, Allex, Haugeberg and Mogen, as well as Bessie Schmitz, Taylor Sparby, Jessica Brown, Tori Hopkins, Tillie Alveshere and Jennifer Levang.
The Wolves will open their season on Tuesday, Aug. 30 when they travel to Killdeer.
