Wolves devour Cougars

The Watford City varsity girls basketball team continued to lay siege to their opponents and on Saturday afternoon, Heart River proved to be the Wolves’ latest victim.
Using a tenacious defense, the Wolves, who are now 13-2 on the season, devoured the Cougars, 72-45.
Watford City took it to the Cougars early as the Wolves jumped out to a quick 29-11 first-quarter lead using a solid full-court press to completely stifle Heart River’s offense.
The Wolves would lead Heart River by 14 points, 40-26, at halftime and then coasted to the easy win out-scoring the Cougars, 32-19, in the second half of play.
Brianna Allex paced the Wolves in scoring as she netted 13 points in the the first quarter to end the game with a game-high 21 points. Also scoring in double figures for Watford City was Katie Mogen who netted 18 points in the winning effort.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was McKayla Haugeberg with nine points, Amanda Mogen and Fallon Fladeland with six points each, Sadie Kieson and Charlie Hystad with four points each, while Tasha Bailey and Taylor Sparby ended the game with two points each.
Allex led the Wolves with nine rebounds, while Haugeberg had seven assists and Katie Mogen had four steals.
