Wolves down New England 3-2 in volleyball action

Watford City picked up a big win last Tuesday as the Wolves defeated New England 3-2 in varsity girls volleyball action. But the Wolves could not maintain their winning ways on Thursday as Watford City dropped three games to Beulah.
For the season, the Wolves are 6-5 overall with a 2-3 dual record.
The Wolves will be competing in the Dickinson Tournament this Friday and Saturday before hosting Stanley on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
Watford City 3, New England 2
Watford City had 17 service aces and 53 kills as the Wolves defeated New England 3-2 in volleyball action last Tuesday.
“We played with great chemistry and confidence against New England,” stated Nancy Deutsch, Wolves’ head coach. “The girls were determined not to let the ball land on our court. Offensively, Justine Homiston and Ashli Foli, our outside hitters, changed their hits to keep New England’s defense scrambling.”
In five extremely close games, which were all decided by less than a four-point advantage, New England took the first game 25-23 with Watford City taking the second game 25-22. New England came back to win the third game 25-21 with Watford City securing the win edging the Tigers 25-23 and 15-13 in the final two games.
Deutsch credits the hard play of Libero Olivia Sundeen and Marti Quale in setting up many of Watford City’s big scores.
Quale led the Wolves with 28 assists and 17 digs in the match while Sierra Perdue had four service aces. Ashli Foli and Dani Bates led the Wolves in kills with 15 and 14 spikes, respectively.

Watford City ran into a buzz saw on Thursday as the Wolves dropped three games to the Miners by scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-16.
Charlie Hystad led the Wolves in kills with four, while Brianna Allex had six assists.
